Dr Johnson's House is one of the few surviving historic townhouses in the City of London (dated c.1700).  Reached through a maze of courts and alleys just north of Fleet Street, it is a literary haven away from the crowds Four stories of beautiful historic interiors and a fascinating collection of prints, portraits, furniture and books are on display.  A warm welcome awaits visitors who can find out about Johnson's great literary endeavours, his eminent circle of friends, his quirky housemates and his love of tea, cats and London.  Take time to peruse through his great Dictionary and discover the meanings of words such as jiggumbob, fopdoodle and bedpresser.  Our visitor information, DVD, a new audio guide and free children's guide and costumes bring the house and Johnson to life.  Johnson famously said 'When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life' and his house is a unique part of London's heritage that is well worth discovering.
